TRUE Stories

Written by you!

"I have one that actually happened years ago in my hometown. I was in 5th grade, and there was a terrible accident that happened to another girl in my grade. Her, her brother, and her dad were traveling at night through a winter storm. The truck broke down. The dad sent his 2 kids to walk in the snow to the house. Her brother stopped for shelter in a bathroom. The girl kept moving forward wearing only some jeans and a vest. She eneded up dying due to hypothermia. After she died, some weird things would happen at the elementary school at night. (Our mom would keep us late there to grade papers) we would hear running, giggling, and we saw black hair outside the classroom window. We think she started haunting the school when she died. We refuse to go down the 5th grade school hallway at night."

"Ever since I was little I could see ghost but weirdly only ghosts of animals and not people most of the time, one time though when I was 7 and playing in the woods near my house I saw a human ghost with animals, I thought I was crazy until years later I saw the same ghost on the stump with the animals."

"When my grandma was getting close to passing (hours away) all of us grandkids were sleeping in the living room. I was the oldest at 12 and the youngest was three. All three of us had "dreams" of her walking into the living room and giving us hugs and kisses before walking out of the room. I was forced to go to school and by the time we reached the classroom, my dad came back to pick us up. She was gone. I was devastated for years, but held on to the memory of the dream as a salve."

"My house that I live in was built in the mid 1900s. Growing up, I've always felt a being living amongst my family and I. I just never really explored or dove deeper into the possibility of there being a ghost in the house. I have two ghosts in my house one shows up all the time but mostly at night. He's name is George. He likes to walk around and open cabinets open and close them. He's polite like that. I feel a sense of security and safety in my house with him. I don't care that he's in the house. Then there's the woman ghost who absolutely hates negative energy. Anytime I had a problem with someone or they were giving off two faced energy without me realizing it, my female ghost would show up but only to the negative person. She will talk to them literally whisper god knows what to them to the point of scaring off those people. Truly is fine with me, helps me weed out the negative energy in my life. I don't know her name. Those are the two most prevalent ghosts in my life at the moment. Sage helps put them at ease in my house. It's still ongoing."

"My mother's house in a small town in Texas is haunted. Something sat on my sisters legs. My friend heard footsteps come out of the closet she was dared not open her eyes until she heard the footsteps went back into the closet. Like the ghost was staring at the visitor. She jumped up scared waking us all up and wouldn't let us go back to sleep at 3 am. She left as soon as the sun came up. I've heard footsteps upstairs when no one was home. We had a haunted house and between 1st and 2nd floors is a landing we would rattle chains as people walked underneath then we go around to dining room and sit around a scary dining scene but while we sat waiting for the people to come around we heard the chains rattle. We thought people went upstairs so we run up and noise stopped and no one was around. We skipped that part and afterwards told our parents and she no longer let us have haunted house. The original owner built the home how the wife wanted. She was so demanding on expensive items for the house that the husband was in a terrible debt and couldn't pay so he hung himself outside on a tree."

"When I was 22 I moved into a foreclosed home in Eastern Washington. This house was the oldest on the block, had more owners than a house should, and nothing would grow on the property even with professional work. Upon moving in I was instantly greeted by the sudden slamming of my bedroom door despite being home alone, and this is when I noticed the inside of the door had scratch marks and was missing the handle. For that I decided to switch to the upstairs bedroom that had a little loft that I wanted to make a nice place to hang out. I started by placing 200 glow in the dark stars all around and when I finished I opened Snapchat to make a video. When I turned off the lights and started recording the room got cold fast and I hear the cynical laugh of a little girl so I turned the lights back on and the door to the crawl space was opened. I watched the video I had taken and couldn't believe what I heard was on it. I saved it to my roll and shared it to my story but it completely disappeared instead. All the stars ended up falling from every wall except the one with that door. I never dared trek into the basement more than 5 minutes but according to the bank it was used to make alcohol during the prohibition so I could only imagine what went on down there."

"My previous house had paranormal activity, I have 4000 dollars in hunting equipment bought it in 2012. We used a spirit box and a kid said his name was Casey. I asked one day "we're friends right Casey" in the room that had the most activity and a glowing white orb flashed twice on a wall in front mine and my grandma's eyes."

"I was keeping 3 of my deceased fathers' drawings inside a folder, inside a box, stuffed behind junk, on the top shelf of my closet. My closet door is always shut. It was the morning of the eclipse, October 2023. I had gone out to do some meditating, with a focus on grief and release. I hadn't thought of my dad's art in a while, but decided to center some of my meditation on the themes of those drawings stuffed far away in my closet. When I came home, I found a dead bird on my door step. Later that day, when I went into my closet (closet door was shut, nothing out of the ordinary), I found my dad's 3 drawings laid neatly out on the floor. The box they were in remained tucked away behind all my junk. And the folder they were in remained neatly packed inside that box."

"Riding in the back of a truck with mom and brother. We were living in Anerican Samoa with my moms sister but we spent weekends with my dads family across the island. Going through one of the many villages between there was a young boy walking on the side of the road. As we passed, the boy very clearly says, Hi Vanessa. Surprised I looked at my mom who was looking back and I was worried she would think I had been cheeky and some random kid knew who I was. She didn't say anything and turned to face front. My mom never said anything to me about it and my brother and I giggled at that one time the random kid said hello. It wasn't til years later mom told me...she looked back to see no kid there even though she saw the kid as we drove towards him. She thought it was an aitu- a ghost, probably mischievous in nature but so very real. The veil between alive and not is very thin"

"I bought a framed photograph from a thrift store - it was a little bit strange but I liked it. It was a photograph of a very old woman, taken from behind, of her at an old-fashioned bathroom sink and you could see the reflection of her face on the mirror. Her face was very wrinkled. I hung it up in my bedroom. That night, I couldn't sleep, tossing and turning and vague feelings of feeling unsettled. I didn't really put it together, but at once I woke up in a startle with an energy coming off of the framed portrait which pulled my focused attention and I realized my feelings were coming from it. I took it off the wall, faced it away from me, and took it back to the thrift store the next day. The next night I slept much better."

"When I was 12/13 I lived in northern California in a small town called larkspur. I'm not sure exactly when the house was built but it was multiple decades old at least. When I first moved in a white orb in my room whispered my name. I thought maybe I was just imagining things since the floorboards creaked and that creeped me out a bit. I felt like there was something under there. I was in the living room watching TV one day and when the screen went black I saw a reflection of the window behind me. I saw the silhouette of a man in a red button down but when I turned around no one was there. I called my dad to check if maybe he just got home and that's what I saw. he was at the grocery store, so I was home alone. kinda creepy but I shook it off. a few weeks later I woke up in the middle of the night being pulled by an invisible force to the edge of my bed by my throat. it felt like I was being choked and getting repetitively punched in the gut. the next day at school I couldn't participate in PE cause my stomach still hurt from the punching sensation. I lied and said it was period cramps because I didn't know how to explain what really happened. I thought I'd sound crazy. that same weekend I was starting to stir from sleep in the morning and it felt like someone's face was right in front of mine so I opened my eyes and saw a horrifying face that looked burned and disaffirmed. It was right in my face what I sensed was right. I gasped and jumped back blinking a few times and then I saw the man in the red button down, on his knees on my bedroom floor. he was blindfolded with his tie and his hands behind his back. I was shook. I ran out of my bedroom in a panic and I just remember my mom hugging me and then reacting to how warm I was. I guess the panic attack this situation induced worked my body heat up I was super hot, more than a fever even. eventually I calmed down and stopped shaking but that situation never sat right with me. we had just moved out of another haunted house that was a bed and breakfast and we had lots of guests have haunting experiences some even leaving in the middle of the night and refusing to come back. so I was already sick of hauntings already but i never encountered anything remotely as disturbing as what i experienced in marin. needless to say I was happy when we moved away from that house. maybe there was a body under those floor boards after all because why was I seeing a man blindfolded? clearly being held captive by the man with the burnt face like some sort of revenge killing. This man was clearly malevolent since he also choked me. I'll always remember the horror of clearly being held up by the throat but no face to sec, no eyes to look into to non verbally ask "why are you doing this?'"

"My mom swears up and down that my childhood home was haunted. I'm the oldest of four siblings, and when it was just me as a newborn and her pregnant in the house (Dad on business trips), she would hear adult stomping running up and down the hallways whenever she wasn't standing in them herself. She figured maybe she was losing her mind or something, and it was one of the older historical houses in Tacoma (I don't remember which :[) But I would start crying as well. She went out of her way to try and figure out what it was but never caught anything, and considering she was pretty religious at the time she figured it might be demons and started playing loud christian music 24/7. It didn't make the stomping go away, that stayed until I was about two or three, but I guess it helped distract her. When I was able to also run around, the adult footsteps stopped and were replaced with my little kid footsteps but she swears to this day that I must be haunted or something (although she thinks it's an angel now because I've had repeated dreams about just chilling with entities (which isn't that odd considering the media I consume), and apparently it's not cool to tell your kid a demon is following them lol)"

'In 1992, I was playing with the Ouija board I found in our attic with someone I thought was a good friend. The Ouija gave us some basic info but soon began to share hurtful truths. One, the spirit said the friend who was a good person and who use every opportunity to hurt me. Second, the spirit said it would prove its telling the truth by sharing information about my last relationship-information that no one should know. Third, the spirit said it was happy my little family was living in its home. It told us what it had seen going on with my family. I was worry but by friend was angry! She suggested we get rid of the board. We cut up the board and burned it. There was nothing left was ash. She left and I continued cleaning up the house and preparing dinner for my fiancé. When he came in, he had something in hand.

"Why did I think burned junk in the mailbox?", he asked. He had what was clearly a piece of burned Ouija board! I still the ashes in the fireplace-the piece he had in his hand was larger than any piece of the pieces we burned."

"When I was about 6 years old my older sister and her fiends asked I I wanted to do a Quija board with them for fun. We all sat in a dark hall way with all the doors leading in closed and a candle for light. Right after we started and the first question was asked, all the doors opened to the hallway at once. Last time I ever touched a board..."

"When I was a kid we lived out in Yakima and every once in awhile at my grandma's trailer weird things would happen. The shower would randomly turn on, my aunt said one time she woke up because she heard whispers and it was 3 men looming over her while she was sleeping on the couch. Then another time it was weird because the sink in the kitchen randomly turned on like someone smacked the handle. That place was scary"

"Our 1st home was built 1865, Cleveland Ohio. Researched Cuyahoga county archives discovered a woman was the original owner, a bit rare for that time. First thing that was interesting was hanging an old inherited mirrored shadowbox. We knew where studs were and used anchors. After it was up for a few minutes it fell breaking the mirror. Had mirror replaced $$$, and it fell again but just cracked the mirror. After some cleansing and talking to the house hung it up and it was okay. The basement was solid round brick, it was a cistern. Several times the basement door would open. Two of us and pets noticed. One time I was brave and annoyed so I went to look and there appeared to be a stocky bald male shape coming up the stairs. I cursed slammed and locked the door and went upstairs. There were many more things in that house, but they never really did much, just creeped us a bit. Wish they would have done the dishes."

"Woke up to what I thought was a flashlight in my face but as soon as I opened my eyes the light went through the door that was closed....."

"Okay. So. When I was younger my family went out of town and I owned quite a bit of porcelain dolls. Well one day. When my parents were out of town I've noticed that one of the porcelain dolls was missing. I didn't really think too much of it cuz maybe you know my mom put it away but once it started getting dark and at the end of the night I started hearing these weird noises up in my attic. Little giggles bunch of footsteps and I'm not going to lie it freaked me out so I had a friend come over and stay with me because it was just continue and I kept saying hey what's up there what's up there anyone. I texted my parents to see if any of them came home but all the doors were locked and no one was home. When my friend ended up coming over the next morning we went up to see what was in the attic and when he opened it up that doll that was missing happened to be sitting there with a very weird smile on its face and that doll had a plain face it never actually had a smile for its original impression. To this day. I refuse to own most types of dolls and have a fear of them."

"In high-school we moved into our new (old) house. I saw a young girl with curly hair and outfit from a long time ago. I didn't want to tell my mom because those things freak her out. But I saw her walk into my mom's room. So I decided to tell her. Then she immediately said are you and your brother playing a prank on me!? To which I said no. I didn't tell him about this yet. And she said he told her yesterday the exact same thing and described her the exact same way. She had someone the next day sage our whole house. She (the ghost) wasn't a scary presence at all."

"My childhood home is haunted it seems to be benevolent but ever since I was little I have been able to feel an entity (not visible so not of this real of my bed my mother also experiences it and when I was younger it scared me but now I find it almost comforting as if this spirit whoever it is, is what will make sure I get to sleep safely. I guess not the most unbelievable or wild but I just find most people I tell don't believe me."

"My family's apartment was haunted. I had long moved away from home by the time my Mom and two sisters started living there, but from the minute they moved in, weird stuff started happening. In fact, some of the weird stuff that had happened in their previous home followed them to this new apartment. So, one night, my husband and I were visiting and decided to stay the night. I was asleep on an air mattress in the living room, with the hubby tucked in beside me. He was awake, watching television while I dozed when he heard somcone in the small kitchen just across the way. Assuming it was my mom, he turned to tell her about the cool thing he'd just seen on the T.V."

"The house my mother grew up on just off of proctor, had a ghost that really hated posters of rock stars. Every time they put up like the Beatles, Stones etc, they would find them on the floor in the morning. when they put up things like rainbows they were untouched."

"There is a house in Tacoma. There are three entities in the house. One in the basement. It is cold and not friendly. There is a spot in the dinning room that is aways cold because of it. There is an old grandpa up stairs. He likes to watch what is going on. Sometimes you can see him out of the corner of you eye. Then he vanishes. There is the lady on the stairs. You have to greet her in some way when you use the stairs. I was going down the stairs and I forgot to say hello. My foot was firmly planted on the step. Then it was knocked out from under me. She didn't let me fall. I was gently lowered to the step on my butt. I never forgot again."

"Visiting a families home on 56th and McKinley in Tacoma WA. Down stairs there was a pool table in the basement. No one was down there and we heard pool balls being cracked and fly off the table. We went to investigate and it was pitch black so we turned the lights on and the pool balls were still in the triangle and pool sticks on the table. We went to run back up the stairs and the door slams in our faces and lights turn off and we heard a growl and smelled an awful smell. We kept trying the door and it finally popped open and the family moved out shortly after other scary incidents happened. It's still haunted to this day it's been sold to another family but you can still feel an evil presence driving by and looking at the home."

"While watching a movie with a stereo speaker behind the curve of a sectional couch that had a couple of medium sized candy canes sitting on top, one of them flew off the speaker and shattered on the wall opposite the couch."

"I rented a one room cabin at an old mountain lake in Utah. Woke up in the middle of the night with my dog growling & an orb floating on the opposite end that he was staring at. He barked and lunged in that direction, the orb swooped down as my dog chased in under the empty bed next to me all the way to the wall as it disappeared through it. Never believed in orbs before."

"My brother had a cat that would suddenly stop what it was doing to watch "something" walk through their old house in Ithaca, NY. The cat would then run like a maniac through the house and hide for a couple hours. Neighbors told my brother that the old house had an odd history and had long been believed to be haunted. The house had 7 doors leading outside and it wasn't unusual to hear slamming doors at any given time."

"Before my parents went hard-core religious, I was often told that between the age of 12 and 24 months I would occasionally be possessed by the ghost of my deceased great-grandmother. She was the family matriarch, and it was shortly after she passed that this began occurring. She knew things about my grandfather that my father didn't even know, but that he confirmed. She would appear frequently and - in her own voice - deliver advice and warnings to family members. My parents no longer talk about this, but my aunts and uncles have sworn up and down that they witnessed this first hand. The closest I've seen to evidence, though, was an old video camera I dug up when I was in third or fourth grade. On it was a recording dated to around when I was 15 months old, a video of me as a baby laying on a crib. I grow very still, look at the camera, and in an elderly, grown woman's voice, sigh and say, "Turn the camera off, Steve (my dad's name)."

"'How I Survived the Curse of Montezuma's Treasure"- This ghost story is on You Tube by one of Tacoma's very own: Brooks. From his channel Get Lost with Brooks (no longer active- so not hunting for subscribers. Just a really great story!)"

"I work at arctic club hotel during covid. This when the hotel had no guest and no employees either. I was only security guard on shift. I seen stuff like orbs and stuff move periodically for no reason. I already know the history about the hotel being haunted so doesn't bother me at all. One time I was doing a patrol in the stairwell of the hotel. I was talking to my mom on face time. She ask tell thats at filter. Next thing feel something going through me. Next thing i know, they said they seen a ghost right through you. I as like okay that first. Now l avoid the stairwell at all cost now."

"My husband and I bought a house about two years ago, and from a young age I have always felt things that others don't often feel. So moving in to this house we found out that the man of this house passed and his wife was selling it since it's hard to keep up with it. As a joke I thought saying this house was haunted would have been funny but to my surprise I did feel the presence of something following me. Mind you we have four dogs and a cat that follow me constantly but this was different, it was a cold follow that would constantly be around me. In the garage there were some belongings that were from the past owners and in that pile was a locked suitcase. My husband and I rummaged through to toss it out but the suitcase was heavy and pecked my interest so like an animal I thwacked it open and found documents and old photos of the past people. A mother, father, two daughters, and their dog were in most of the photos and in the end we just tossed them and carried on our day. The sole purpose of buying a house was so that we could have a big yard for our dog and with that I myself can garden for the first time. Digging around and planting seeds and when it was just me out there, that following presence was also there. Now I don't know if I was just going bananas but I truly don't experience things like this often and once I had seeds sprouting (sunflowers) I had a spot ready to plant them. Nothing was called to that spot I just chose that spot at random and I started digging and found a toy rope, name tag and a jar of sealed something. Ash? Maybe but that moment I understood that the thing following me around was the dog who once lived here and he has been following me and my boys. In my heart I felt sad that this good boy is waiting for his owners and somehow find comfort with my family. Our furry friends have unconditional love even in the great beyond and will continue to follow us wherever we may go."

"#The Midnight Visitor In the winter of 1957, the Perron family moved into a colonial farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. The 200-year-old home sat on 200 acres of land and seemed like the perfect place to raise their five daughters. They had no idea what awaited them. Within days of moving in, strange occurrences began. The family would wake to find all the kitchen chairs arranged in a perfect circle in the center of the room. Doors would open and close by themselves. The smell of rotting meat would suddenly permeate a room, then vanish just as quickly. But what terrified the family most was the entity they came to know as "Bathsheba." Historical records revealed that a woman named Bathsheba Sherman had lived in the house during the 1800s. Local rumors suggested she had been a practicing witch who sacrificed an infant to the devil and hanged herself from a tree behind the house at the age of 93. Every night at precisely 5:15 AM, Mrs. Perron would wake to find a woman with a broken neck standing by her bed. The apparition's head hung at an unnatural angle, her face distorted with hatred. She would whisper, "Get out. Get out. I'll drive you out with death and gloom." The haunting grew increasingly violent over the years. The children were tormented by unseen forces that would pull their hair and slap them in their sleep. Mrs. Perron herself was physically attacked, once being lifted from her bed and thrown across the room. The family lived in terror for nearly a decade before finally moving out in 1980. This case became famous when paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren documented the haunting, which later inspired the film "The Conjuring." The Perron family members still maintain the absolute truth of their experiences, and their story remains one of the most well-documented hauntings in American history. The farmhouse still stands today. Current and previous owners continue to report unexplained phenomena, suggesting that whatever haunts the old colonial home in Harrisville has never left."

"When I was five my parents bought a beautiful, large house. It was built by a man famous for raising beautiful black stallions. There were three bedrooms upstairs and large playroom with an unfinished closet. My three older siblings had the bedrooms and mine was in a corner of the playroom, near the closet. Every night I would see a large shadow near the closet that I called the block man. No lights inside or out explained it. My oldest brother and his wife and infant daughter lived there while my parents had it up for sale. One night a fire started and burned the house to the ground. The fire department determined the fire started in the closet. Fast forward 15 years and mother was talking about the house and said: "we never should have bought it, we knew the man who built it had hung himself in that closet when his fiancee jilted him And when I was alone in the house, sometimes I heard what sounded like horses hooves on the floor on your room..."

"My son was 9 months old when we moved to a 1940s home. He had injured his mouth in a fall and was crying out for me at 3am. I carried him to the kitchen to grab a cold popsicle to ease the pain. As I reached for the freezer door I felt someone guide my arm and stand close to my neck. He felt it too and tried to get away, slapping at this entity. I turned the light switch on and nothing was there, but the room was cold. Summer of 1973"

"I lived in a very old rambler style home when I was a teenager and it has been told that a young, blonde girl, wearing grey pants and a pink shirt haunts the home. I didn’t believe it until I lived there. I was cleaning my room when my stereo turned off all by itself. I then went to fiddle with it and it turned on and blasted all the way up gradually. I yelled, “stop!” really loudly and it did. My stereo shut entirely off and didn’t come back on. I often would smell rotting peaches in my room as well. Never ate food in my room and I kept it clean, yet my mom would smell it sometimes, only in my room. Freaking ghost-girl got me grounded for it the first time, because my mom didn’t believe I didn’t have food in my room somewhere."

"When I was in high school, I had a friend who’s girlfriend was house sitting a very old home in Tacoma. The home was owned by a doctor and the home was old Tacoma. There was a group of us that explored the home. Up the creepy wooden staircase that creeks from age but with a certain elegance that an old Tacoma has. We check all the rooms until we came to one room that was colder than the rest. Oddly colder and noticeable. The room was empty except for in the closet. There on the floor was an ouija board. It freaked all of us out to the point where people were visibly shaken and scared. That image of that room and what was found has been with me ever since and still gives me goosebumps 20 plus years after."

" I was 12 with my brother 19 and my 2 married cousins in their 20's we were out camping. I was in bed and needed to go to restroom but it was bit away so I asked my brother to drive me down the hill. On our way back my brother wanted a cigarette and saw another camper with lights on up across from us to the left. We sat chatted and then was on our way back up to our camp, which was the last camp up the hill, as we cut across to our camp we got stuck in a ditch. So my brother said stay here I will go get our cousin to pull us out. It was dark and our headlights shined straight ahead. My brother went to exit the car when we both saw a ghostly image of a young man walking in front of the car about 30ft away as it got directly in front of us he stopped, looked at us and then started walking further up the hill past where no one was camping. We woke the next morning to the news of a motorcycle rider who had went off the cliff the hill behind our camp the night before and they were looking for the rider."
